Perfect Tankless Plumbing, San Jose, CA

Shower repair in San Jose covers replacing worn cartridges that cause drips and temperature problems, replacing old valve bodies, fixing diverters that send water to the wrong outlet, repairing pan and drain leaks, and restoring low flow at the head; older homes often need a full valve replacement because parts are no longer made.

What goes wrong in a shower

The shower valve controls flow and temperature through a cartridge or a set of stems and washers. When it wears, the shower drips, temperature swings or the handle becomes stiff. The pan and drain under the floor can leak into the room below without any sign in the shower itself.

We diagnose which part has failed before opening tile, because the right repair depends on the valve brand and age.

Cost factors

What shower repairs cost depend on

We do not publish a local shower repair price; the part and the access set the scope.

  • Cartridge or valve. a cartridge is a small job; a valve is larger
  • Access. from behind the wall or through tile
  • Valve brand. parts availability
  • Pan or drain. gasket repair or floor rebuild
  • Supply pipe condition. old galvanized to the valve
  • Tile repair. usually by others

Shower valve replacement

When a valve body is old, corroded or no longer supported with parts, replacing it is the lasting fix. That usually means opening the wall behind the shower or cutting a clean access from the tile side and installing a modern pressure-balancing or thermostatic valve. We choose a valve with a trim that covers the opening where possible, so tile repair is minimal, and pressure test the new valve before the wall is closed, because a leaking joint behind finished tile is exactly what the repair was meant to prevent.

Cartridge and diverter

A dripping shower head or a handle that no longer controls temperature well usually means a worn cartridge. We identify the brand and model, fit the matching cartridge and seals, and clean scale from the valve body. Diverters that send water to both the spout and the head, or will not switch, are repaired or replaced at the spout or in the valve. Getting the exact cartridge matters; generic parts often drip again within weeks, so we confirm the model before ordering.

Pan leak

A shower pan leak shows as a stain on the ceiling below or damp flooring next to the shower, often only after longer showers. The cause may be the drain connection, a failed pan liner or grout and caulk letting water behind the tile. We test by running water only on the floor, then only on the walls, to separate the sources. A failed drain gasket is repairable; a failed liner usually means rebuilding the shower floor, and we explain that clearly before anything is broken.

Low pressure at the head

Weak flow at a shower head is usually scale in the head or its flow restrictor, a scaled cartridge, or in older homes a narrowed galvanized supply to the valve. We clean or replace the head, descale or replace the cartridge, and check flow at the valve with the head removed. If flow is weak even there, the supply pipe is the problem and we explain what fixing it involves, from a short branch replacement to a larger repipe, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

Local context

Hard water and older supply lines behind weak San Jose showers

Two things account for most weak showers we see in San Jose. The first is scale: the same minerals that leave a white film on glass doors build up in shower heads and cartridges. The second is age. Willow Glen and Cambrian have many homes at or past the life of their galvanized supply lines, and a narrowed pipe to the shower valve cannot be fixed by cleaning the head.
